How to Quit Backdrop Completely on Mac and Windows
Closing the Backdrop window doesn't quit the app. Here's how to quit Backdrop completely on macOS and Windows with Quit Completely.
Closing the Backdrop window doesn't quit the app. Backdrop keeps running quietly in the background so it can let you know when a call starts. To shut it down for real, use Quit Completely.
These only hide the window
The red close button, ⌘Q, File → Quit, Quit in the Dock, and Quit Backdrop in Settings all hide Backdrop. They don't quit it. The Backdrop icon stays in your menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows).
Quit completely
Use either one:
- Menu bar: click the Backdrop icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen, then click Quit Completely.
- Dock: right-click the Backdrop icon in the Dock, then click Quit Completely.
Once you quit completely, the icon disappears and Backdrop stops showing call notifications.
Opening Backdrop again
Open Backdrop from Applications (Mac) or the Start menu (Windows). If Launch at login is on in Settings, Backdrop also starts on its own the next time you sign in to your computer.
Just want fewer notifications?
You don't have to quit. Open Settings and turn off Call detection. Backdrop stops showing call notifications, and you can still start recording yourself. See When Backdrop Records.
