Personal Integrations: Connect Your Own Tools
Connect your own CRM, meeting notes, and Slack to Backdrop. Read-only, visible only to you, and set up from the Knowledge page in under a minute.
Personal integrations connect your own account in a tool you already use. Backdrop reads it on your behalf, so it only ever sees what your account can see, and only you can use it.
Connect a tool
- In the Backdrop app, open Knowledge from the sidebar.
- Find the tool, or type its name in Search integrations…, and click Connect on its card.
- In the Personal row, click Connect. Your browser opens the tool's sign-in page.
- Sign in and approve access. While you do, Backdrop shows Waiting… with a Cancel button.
When the card turns green and reads For you, the tool is connected.
You can also connect tools while you set up Backdrop, in the Connect your tools step, or later from the Connect your own tools row of the setup checklist on the home screen.
Why the sign-in screen may mention Nango
Backdrop uses Nango to manage connections securely. Some tools name Nango, or
api.nango.dev, on their approval screen. That is expected.
What Backdrop does with it
Backdrop uses your connected tools in two places:
- Ask Backdrop: answers your questions with what it finds in your tools, during a call or outside one.
- Live calls: when a call matches a meeting on your calendar, Backdrop looks up the account, the people, and your past conversations as the call starts, and keeps looking while it runs.
Privacy and access
- Only you can use it. A personal connection belongs to you. Teammates and admins can't use it.
- Read-only. Backdrop reads from your tools. It never creates, edits, or deletes anything in them.
- Your permissions, not more. Backdrop sees exactly what your own account can see in the tool.
Disconnect a tool
- Open Knowledge and click Manage on the tool's card.
- In the Personal row, click Disconnect, then confirm.
Backdrop stops reading the tool on your behalf. You can connect it again at any time.
Troubleshooting
- "Connection timed out, please try again": the sign-in wasn't finished within two minutes. Click Connect and try again.
- "This integration is already connected. Disconnect it first.": the tool is already connected for you. Disconnect it, then connect again.
- The card says connected, but Backdrop can't reach the tool: your access may have expired or been revoked in the tool. Disconnect it, then connect it again.
