Slack Integration: Use Team Channels as Knowledge Sources

Connect your Slack workspace to Backdrop so the answers in your team's channels power real-time answers on calls. Admin setup, shared by the whole team.

Your team answers prospect questions in Slack every day: the security review thread, the pricing exception, the engineer's reply about an integration. Connect your Slack workspace once, and those answers become a source Backdrop draws on for every rep.

Who can set this up

Note:

A Backdrop workspace admin, who also has permission to add apps to your Slack workspace. The connection is shared by everyone in your workspace.

Just want your own Slack?

Note:

To connect only your own Slack account, for your own questions and calls, see the personal Slack integration.

Connect Slack in Backdrop

  1. In the Backdrop app, open Knowledge from the sidebar.
  2. Find Slack and click Connect on its card.
  3. In the Everyone row, click Connect. Your browser opens Slack.
  4. Sign in to your Slack workspace and approve the Backdrop app.

When the card reads For everyone, Slack is connected. The Slack card also has a Personal row, which connects only your own account.

Choose your channels

Once Slack is connected, work with your Backdrop rep to choose which channels Backdrop learns from.

  • Public channels: Backdrop joins them on its own.
  • Private channels: invite the Backdrop app first. In the channel, type /invite and choose Backdrop.

What Backdrop syncs

  • Messages from the channels you chose, including thread replies.
  • New messages every hour after the first sync.

The first sync of a busy channel can take several hours. Slack limits how quickly apps can read message history, so Backdrop works through it at Slack's pace.

Disconnect Slack

  1. Open Knowledge and click Manage on the Slack card.
  2. In the Everyone row, click Disconnect, then confirm.

Backdrop stops receiving messages from your Slack workspace.
